5-Is the Bible the word of God?

I had been deceived into believing that the Bible had been manipulated and distorted over the centuries, that it was the work of men and not a reliable source of the Word of God. In fact, many are openly saying that it is the work of the Devil. Yet many Bible verses are used out-of-context, with their true meaning distorted, to promote various New-Age teachings. We are told other ancient religious texts and writings, along with new revelations from people living today or spirit entities, are equally as valuable and reliable. Some things in the Bible are not meant to be taken literally. The Bible is filled with allegories, poetry, symbolism and figurative language. It takes study to know what this symbolic language means.

However I always take the literal meaning first because the Bible is primarily a simple, no-nonsense document. If it’s from God to his children, then the majority of it should be easy to understand at face value. Also the literal interpretation is always the easiest interpretation, and not as subject to opinions as symbolic interpretations, so it’s the most stable interpretation.

On the other side of the coin, however, if scripture is from God, then it may very well contain a nearly infinite degree of meaning, hidden as nuggets of truth. As scripture states, it is the honor of kings to seek them out (Proverbs 25:2).

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.

In short, scripture provides the light we need, and it dynamically fills our spirits like water in a sponge, uniquely tailored to each person’s level of maturity, intellectual ability, spiritual wisdom, and other characteristics that make us the individuals that we are.

In most cases, scripture provides a clearly understood literal meaning, but often embedded deeper within are numerous symbolic meanings.

For the first time in my life I am actually sitting down and reading the Scriptures. It is changing my being and I am becoming a new creature as the work of the Holy Spirit is transforming me. I feel the grace, the authority and the tremendous power of God permeating every word of His Gospel. What an incredible blessing! The words within the Bible are spirit and life; they are supernatural and when we let the Living Water penetrate and soak into our heart, we are transformed and renewed.

I believe in the supreme authority of the Bible as the Word of God. The Bible contains 66 books, 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. I believe that the original God inspired books of the Bible, written in the original biblical languages of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, were free from error.

The Bible is the Word of God and that it does not and cannot contradict itself. The problem is never with the Word of God as inspired by God through His Holy Spirit. The problem is always with man made translation and interpretation errors that bring contradictions into the Word of God.

God is Sovereign in everything and He has allowed errors to exist in Translations, but no translation errors can prevent God from revealing His true Gospel of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to whomsoever, and whenever, He chooses to reveal it.

They are facts which scientifically prove that the Bible could not possibly have been written by mere human beings alone, but that it is a supernatural, God-inspired, God-given book!

having been begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which liveth and abideth. 1 Peter 1:23

David Eells of UBM ministry says: “God put His signature on the sixty-six books of the Bible through Bible codes, Numerics, Theomatics, etc., which cannot be found consistently in any other books. These prove a perfect inspiration in the sixty-six books, the level of which nothing else matches.”

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Matthew 24:35

Every scripture inspired of God[is] also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness. That the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16

For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21

The Bible is truly an amazing book, living and powerful, and when it is studied and understood with the help of God’s Holy Spirit, the true meaning of the Word is revealed.

“No book in the whole history of mankind has had such a revolutionary influence,
has so decisively affected the development of the western world, or had such a worldwide effect as the ‘Book of Books,’ the Bible. Today, after two thousand years, it has been translated into 1120 languages and dialects and gives no sign of having exhausted its triumphal progress.” WERNER KELLER

  1. GOD says:

I have but one statement: there is NO proof that jesus has ever existed. No trace of jesus or his bones have ever been found. the bible is written by ‘man’ and certainly not by God, the proof of this statement is the blatant man made ideas that ‘god’ is a jealous god. Only man would create such a concept of god that suits him and wears the face of man and NOT God. On this earth, it is Loving to be NON judgement of other people, other paths, and other faiths. the bible is NOT written by GOD. it is written by man. It is so obvious and transparent that God is completely removed from man’s illusory world of ego reality and narcissistic arrogance. Before you crucify what you DO NOT understand, realize that you do NOT know everything. This is the birth of true humility and Love of God.

      Dear Kristina
Jesus was resurrected with His physical body and left no bones behind Him. Who says there is no proof that Jesus ever existed? Wikipedia? it is a well known fact that Wikipedia and others “official information sites” have a blatant anti christian bias.

On the other hand there is a wealth of ancient historian records of the life and death of Jesus Christ. Thallus and Julius Africanus both mentions a strange darkness, earthquake and destruction that occurred around AD 32 at the time of the crucifixion.

These occurrences are described in the bible when the veil in the Jewish temple was torn in two at the time of Jesus’s death. The veil being torn from top to bottom is a fact of history.
Others Historian like Phlegon and Josephus describes in detail the life of Jesus. In Josephus’ final passage he writes that Jesus was a wise man and the Messiah, and there is even a highly accurate retelling of the resurrection story!

One of the most intriguing entries was recorded in Josephus’ Antiquities of the Jews (18.63-64; 3.3): “Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ. And when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again the third day; as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him. And the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day.”

Even the non-Jewish historical sources of the time mention Jesus and it is nearly universal. There was a common knowledge of Jesus’ life and death among the people in the first few centuries. The list of historians are enormous: Tacitus (Annals, AD 115-120), Suetonius (Lives of the Caesars, AD 125), Lucian (mid-2nd century), Galen (AD 150; De pulsuum differentiis 2.4; 3.3) Celsus (True Discourse, AD 170), Mara Bar Serapion (pre AD-200?), and the Jewish Talmudic References (AD 300).

So Kristina the bible is written by men yes but it is inspired of God. These men recorded what they heard from God. Yes God do speak to men in a very clear audible voice even now in our time.

Kristina, the jealousy of God has nothing to do with the jealousy of men. We all know what the jealously of mankind look like.

“Jealousy” as an attribute of God here is from the Greek word zelos and is an “intense positive interest in something (zeal) and marked by a sense of dedication”
      A. The jealousy of God
      1. God has a fervent desire that things should transpire as He desires, which is always in accord with His character.
      cf. Exod 20:5; Deut 4:24; 5:9; 6:15; Josh 24:19
      2. God is zealous/jealous that His people should not sin.
      cf. Deut. 29:20; 32:16,21; Ps. 78:58; 79:5; Ezek. 16:38; I Cor. 10:22
      3. God is zealous/jealous that His people should live in accord with His character.
      cf. Ezek. 39:25; Zech 8:2

Kristina, the only one entitled to judge mankind is God. Because God created us and God is a righteous God. So righteous that He gave His Son Jesus to die for us in payment of our sin according to His Divine Justice.

Please understand the depth of this unbelievable and generous sacrifice. Jesus is God in the flesh. So God Jesus the creator of the universe, the earth, you and me, everybody else and everything visible and invisible in creation came here as a poor carpenter and died like a criminal at the young age of 33.
No human mind can even begin to comprehend what that truly means, but even with a superficial partial grasp of what that means, you would know why God is a jealous God.

Kristina I do know I do not know everything, in fact you probably missed one of many humble statement I make in my book: ” without God I am nothing”

Kristina you speak of the love of God but I dare say that you do not know God. If you did you wouldn’t be denying the existence of Jesus. Jesus said:
” No one comes to the father but through me”

Jesus is not only found in historical records but in the heart of every believer. Jesus is alive and speak to everyone that loves Him. He said :”My sheep hear my voice”
Kristina Jesus is very real in my life, I talked to Him and He talks to me. Everyday I fellowship for a few hours with Jesus. I love Him and I know He loves me….!!!
God bless you and reveal Himself to you.

    Philippe,
These lines are so true, “The Bible is the Word of God and that it does not and cannot contradict itself. The problem is never with the Word of God as inspired by God through His Holy Spirit. The problem is always with man made translation and interpretation errors that bring contradictions into the Word of God. ”
I am enjoying hearing you share your Heart.
